On the ninth day of chocolate, let’s talk mug cakes.

Mug cakes gained popularity on many internet cooking sites and mailing lists because of their ease of construction and cooking time.  The technique uses a mug as its cooking vessel and can be done in a microwave oven. The recipe often takes fewer than five minutes to prepare.

This recipe comes from TheNaptimeChef and is perfect for the rapidly approaching holiday.  This is a take on the popular mug cake recipe by adding crushed peppermint candy and a bit of peppermint extract.  Garnish with a candy cane and you have yet another perfect and EASY holiday treat.   This literally will take you less than five minutes—and you’ll wow everyone you are serving.  So go for it!  And happy 9th day of chocolate!

Chocolate Candy Cane Mug Cake


Ingredients

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

2 tablespoons oil

1 drop peppermint extract


Directions

Mix the flour, sugar and cocoa in the mug. Add the egg and mix well. Then add the oil, milk and peppermint extract and stir until thoroughly combined.

Microwave the mug for 2 minutes, top with whipped cream, add in some candy canes for garnish and serve..
