Milk Chocolate and Almonds–the Perfect Partners!
On the 8th day of the month of July every year in the U.S., lovers of creamy milk chocolate and almonds have an excuse to indulge. This is because on this day is a food holiday known across the country as National Milk Chocolate with Almonds Day. According to the California Almond Board, almonds are the number one nut globally for chocolate confectionery products. Since 2006, their use has increased 50%. It is clear that the delicious combination of milk chocolate and almonds is here to stay.
History of National Milk Chocolate with Almonds Day
The history of National Milk Chocolate with Almonds Day is unknown. Other food holidays are sometimes created by manufacturers, and it can be speculated that National Milk Chocolate with Almonds Day may one of these (although it is hard to know for sure).
What is known for sure is that milk chocolate is attributed to Swiss chocolatier, Daniel Peter. Daniel Peter developed the first formula for milk chocolate. It is likely that somewhere around 1847, when Fry’s chocolate factory began commercially producing chocolate bars, that fruit and nuts were subsequently added to the solid bars to create new flavors. Hershey’s introduced their milk chocolate with almonds bar in 1908.
